ALLNUTRITION NAC or N-acetyl L-cysteine, is a modified form of cysteine attached to the acetyl group. Cysteine is one of the endogenous amino acids (those which can be synthesised by the body), containing sulphur. Due to its specific structure, it is a very reactive amino acid, and binds many toxic substances, thus being helpful in detoxification processes. L-cysteine (together with glutamine and glycine) is also essential for the synthesis of glutathione – a powerful intrabody antioxidant. It also takes part in the synthesis of proteins, enzymes and coenzymes.
